Applying Age Restrictions

For any age restriction to apply, the 'Apply age restrictions' tick box within the restriction settings needs to be ticked.

Log into the library system and load the Management page.

Click 'Settings' on the menu bar at the top of the page then select 'Restrictions'.

When the 'Restrictions...' box loads, select the 'General' tab.

This option can be used to enforce or prevent the system from applying age restrictions. The minimum age restrictions for a resource are set on the advanced tab of each individual resource record. The setting 'Age restrictions can be overridden' allows age restrictions to be overridden in Circulate. If this is not checked then there will be no way to override the restriction when issuing a resource with an age restriction.

Once the general settings have been applied, the resource(s) will need a minimum age applied to it.

Open the resource record you wish to apply an age restriction to and click on the 'Advanced' tab.

The 'Minimum Age' is the first restriction in the 'Restrictions' section, this setting can be defined whether the 'Lock Restrictions' box is ticked or not. The minimum age is used to determine whether a borrower is old enough to borrow a resource.

Age restrictions will only be applied once a borrower has logged in, at which point the system will be able to pick up their date of birth. Otherwise all resources will be available as a potential search result.
