Assigning a Barcode Accession Number & ISBN

When adding a resource to the library system, you will be asked to scan two different barcodes. The fist is simply referred to as 'Barcode', this is the barcode or accession number you have personally assigned to the book. The second is the EAN/ISBN, this is the resource specific barcode that comes with the book.

If you have already printed barcode labels and attached them to the resource you are cataloguing, you need to scan or type the barcode number that you have attached into the first box. If you have not yet assigned the resource a barcode and you wish to use the next available number, click the 'Auto' box and the number will be automatically added.

If the resource has an EAN/ISBN, scan or type it into the second box, successfully doing this will automatically close this box and open the resource record card.  You can also use the 'Find...' option to search your current catalogue if adding a second copy of a book you already have.

Not all resources have an EAN/ISBN so this field is not mandatory, when adding resources such as hardware or musical instrument it may be easier to leave this blank, or use a different identifier such a model number.

When you are happy with the information you have entered, click 'Continue' to proceed to the resource record card.
