Creating Borrower Restriction Groups

Setting up restriction groups for your borrowers allows you to have different restrictions for different borrowers. Tailoring the settings of the restriction group allows you to adjust the amount of resources a particular tutor group, group of borrowers or even an individual borrower can have out at any one time and allows you to add an extra layer of control to how your resources are issued.

For instance, this will allow you to increase the amount and the duration of loans for those preparing for exams, avid readers, or book clubs. Alternatively, both the duration and amount of loans can be reduced for those who often forget to return books.

Borrowers Tab

Every borrower in the system is assigned a restriction group when they are added to the system. This will normally be the restriction group specified in the 'System Default' box. If you want to change this, just select a group you have created from the list. If you have specified a group on the Tutor Group record card, this will be used instead of the group specified here

To create a new restriction group, log into the library system and load the Management page, click on 'Settings' in the top menu then select 'Restrictions...'.

Next, click on the 'Borrowers' tab.

The tick box and the bottom is for allowing borrowers to renew loans in My Account. When the student logs in and clicks 'My Account', they will see their current loans. If this option and renewals are enabled, they will be allowed to click renew on the resource. This will only work if they have not reached their renewal limit.

Creating a New Group

Click 'New' to begin creating a new restriction group.

In the box that opens, start entering the settings for this new group, ensuring you enter a description so you know what to refer back to later.

Enter the settings that you wish to set as the default for that group. In addition to the allowance, reservations, renewals and loan period, you can optionally configure additional rules, that take effect when a resource meets a certain criteria.
