Creating/Editing Barcode Masks

A barcode mask must be unique in length/format. For example, you cannot have 2 fully numeric 5-digit barcode mask for borrowers, one to remove certain characters and one to not remove anything. The system has to uniquely identify the appropriate mask to use in order to apply it. If you have resources/borrowers in your library system with differences that would require two masks you will need to alter one or the other so that they are all the same.

We advise extreme caution when altering barcode masks, as one wrong move could cause problems with what is already there. If you are in any doubt about creating or changing barcode masks please contact us.

Creating/Editing a Mask

To create a new barcode mask, log into the library system as an administrator level user and load the Management page. On the menu bar at the top of the page, select 'Settings' and then select 'Barcodes...' from the list.

On the 'Barcodes...' window, if you are creating a new mask, click the 'New' button. If you are editing an existing mask, select it from the list and click 'Edit'.

Ensure the mask has a name, normally this is the type of resource/borrower it is scanning and it's length, then select a Type, either Borrower, Resource or both.

Now you need to add the appropriate symbols for the length and format of the barcode into the 'Mask' and 'Modification Mask' Boxes and tick or leave unticked the 'Return the Value' tick-box depending on your preferences.

Click 'OK' at the bottom of the box and then again on the previous box to save the changes.
