How to Add a Z39/Z-Source

The library system uses the Discovery Online database to populate summaries and bibliographic data for resources that are catalogued in Management. It does this using data from Nielsen BookData. Nielsen is the leading provider of book related data services to more than 100 countries worldwide.

Although the Nielsen Book database now holds over 30 million title records, additional sources can be used to gather bibliographical information, this is where Z-Sources or Z39 sources are used.

To add a Z-Source, log into the library system as an administrator (not librarian) user and load Management. Select 'Settings' on the menu bar at the top of the page then select 'External Sources...' from the list.

Select 'Add Z-Source' then enter the information from your Z-Source provider.

Once the information has been added, press the 'Test Connection' button to ensure the details are correct. If correct, message will be shown and the z-source can be used for searching or cataloguing.

Click 'OK' to save and close the box.
