Individual Resource Restrictions

Individual resource restrictions are restrictions that are locked to a specific title. When these restrictions are locked, the restrictions defined at the resource type and borrower levels are overridden by those specified on the resource record regardless of value.

Open the resource that the restrictions are to be changed for and click the 'Advanced' tab.

Tick the 'Lock Restrictions' check box.

There is a tick box next to 'Loan Period', 'Maximum Renewals', 'Maximum Reservations', 'Maximum Fine' and 'Fine Rate'. These tick boxes allow you to control the individual restriction settings. For example, to only lock the loan period, tick the box so that the 'Loan Period' box becomes available for editing and leave the rest blank.

Tick and enter the desired settings into the boxes as required:

  • Minimum Age - This is the minimum age a borrower must be to be allowed to view and borrow this book. This is calculated from the borrower's date of birth, not the year group they are in.
  • Loan Period - This is the number of days this resource is issued for, by default this is set to 21 days. This is used to calculate the day the resource is due back.
  • Maximum Renewals - This is the number of times this resource can be renewed by any one borrower. For instance, if this is set to 2 then a borrower can only renew the item twice before the system prompts that no more renewals are allowed and the resource must be returned.
  • Maximum Reservations - This is the limit of how many borrowers can reserve this resource at any one time.
  • Maximum Fine - This is the limit on the amount of money that can be accrued when this resource is overdue. For instance, if the maximum fine is set to 3.00 then when a fine on this resource reaches that limit it will not increment further.
  • Fine Rate - This defines the amount a fine will be increase each day it is overdue. For example, if the fine rate is 0.20 and the resource is overdue by 3 days, the current fine will be 0.60. If the fine rate was 0.10 then the current fine would be 0.30.

The settings under 'Not Allowed To' define which year groups and tutor groups can and cannot borrow this resource. This is helpful when a resource has been obtained purely for one year or group. For example, if the resource is only allowed for borrowers in year 9 then all groups apart from those belonging to year 9 can be prevented from borrowing the resource by ticking each group apart from year 9. The 'Select All' and 'Clear All' selects all years or groups and clears all selected years or groups in the not allowed to box, respectively.

Click 'Save' to confirm any changes and return to the resources table.
