MLS Connect Error Log Showing "Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

When looking in the log of the Connect job the log is showing 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' many times. The job may or may not have failed after the errors.

Has The Job Failed?

If the job has not failed then you have nothing to worry about, check the Intake table of your library system by loading the Management page and selecting 'Database' from the menu bar at the top of the page and then 'Intake' from the drop down. You should see your borrowers there waiting to be transferred. If they are not all there then please carry out the steps detailed below. If the job has failed then you will need to carry out some remedial steps.

Proxy

Ensure the proxy settings for your establishment are known, so that the Connect software is able to connect to the internet. The proxy server IP address and port are essential and if the proxy requires authentication, a network user whose password is unlikely to change needs to be known.

Ensure that your firewall/proxy allows access to *.groupcall.com and *.groupcall.co.uk.

MLS Importer Settings

Find the MLS importer settings program that should be installed on your SIMS server.

  • Right click the program and select 'Properties'
  • Select 'Compatibility'

  • Click 'Apply'
  • Click 'Close'
  • Double click the MLS importer settings program
  • Ensure that 'Junior Lib/Managed' is selected under MLS system
  • Click on the third tab at the top
  • Ensure that the Post Code is entered in the 'Post Code' box in block capitals and has a space between the two parts (AB12 3CD)
  • Ensure the 'Server/endpoint' is https://api-intake.microlibrarian.net/services/studentintake.svc?url=https://U001234.microlibrarian.net and replace the 001234 with your customer number padded to 6 digits with leading 0s (012345, 000012)
  • Click 'Test Connection', you may need to add your proxy details in below
  • Once the box says 'Test Successful', click 'Apply'
  • Click 'Close'

Xporter Management Console

  • Load the Xporter management console
  • Select 'Jobs' on the left-hand side
  • Right click 'MLS-Eclipse' from the middle
  • Select 'Reset Changes'
  • Wait approximately 30 seconds
  • Repeat and select 'Run Job Now'

The job will now run through and import all borrowers into the library system.
