MLS Connect Fails With "Sims: Failed to Connect. Exception Has Been Thrown by the Target of an Invocation"

This occurs when the service is unable to connect to the SIMS management system. If you are using Groupcall Xporter for other systems, you may find that they are malfunctioning as well. You should see an error in your log file:

'SIMS: Failed to connect

Report Failed

EGCSqlException: (EGCSimsNetAppDomainException) COM Error: (80131604)

Source: mscorlib, Desc: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.'

There are two proven solutions to correcting this error. Firstly, we recommend that you run and use the SIMS client software from the machine that Connect has been installed onto. The application may prompt you to update, it may fail to run altogether or something else could occur. If the SIMS client software does not open successfully at this stage then you will need to take the necessary action in getting this resolved before you are able to resolve the issue with Connect.

When the SIMS client opens successfully, ensure that the connection string for the management system is correct. The connection details are held in a 'connect.ini' file, which resides in the Groupcall installation directory.

  • Browse to the installation folder ('C:\Program Files (x86)\Groupcall\Xporter')
  • Locate the 'connect.ini' file and rename it
  • Run the MLS-Eclipse job from the Groupcall Xporter Management Console and the system should pick up the default one from the SIMS installation. The job will now complete successfully.
