Resource Barcode Issues

If you are having issues scanning barcodes in your library system and you have established that the scanner does not need configuring, the issue may be with the barcode itself.

When cataloguing resources, it is possible for mistakes to happen, especially if you have previously had a faulty or incorrectly setup scanner, or experienced performance issues while cataloguing.

Start by locating the resource in the Resources table in management by quick searching the book title or author and double click the record to open it. What does it say in the barcode field?

Some of the most common mistakes when cataloguing resources are:

  • Cataloguing the ISBN as the barcode

  • including the tilde in the barcode

If you have either (or both) of these issues, you can correct the barcode in the record card.

Once the barcode is showing accurately in the resource record card, your barcode will now scan correctly. If you are still having issues, the issue may be with the barcode masks.
