SIP2 Setup and Configuration

SIP2 is a protocol used for communication between the library application and other systems, such as a Self-Service terminal, eBook platform, security gates and other systems. The library system comes with its own built-in SIP2 service.

Before using SIP2, you will need to purchase a SIP licence, this can be obtained by contacting our Sales Team. The Reading Cloud Infrastructure team will then set you up on our internal SIP servers.

SIP2 Set up

Log into the library system as an administrator user then load the Management page, select 'Settings' on the menu bar at the top of the page, then 'Module Settings' and 'SIP2 Server...' from the list.

Choose how you wish to identify the Borrowers using the SIP2 service by selecting an available option from the 'Borrower Identifier' box.

Should you be using the 'Barcode' field then you can choose whether barcode masks should be applied. Click the 'Apply Barcode Masks' tick box to enforce this setting.

Next, select what field the SIP service should look for when identifying a resource by selecting from the 'Resource Identifier' combo box. Again, should you be using the 'Barcode' field, you can optionally check 'Apply Barcode Masks' to enforce barcode masks.

The last setting in this section is the option to Change the SIP Password. The SIP2 system requires password authentication before it can be used. The username is always the number shown in the User ID box and you can click 'Change Password' to set the password at any time.

You or your third party provider will need to enter the SIP details into the self-service application, these may vary depending on the application in use, but at minimum the following would be required.

  • SIP Address: sip.uk.microlibrarian.net
  • SIP Port: 6001
  • SIP Username/ID: Typically, this would be the customer number, clarify this by checking the 'User ID'.
  • SIP Password: If this is not known it can be reset via the 'Change Password' option.
