Using Card Print

The built in Card Print module is used to generate library cards for groups of borrowers. The cards can then be cut up and given to the borrowers to put into their planners or kept on their person like a library card. It can also be helpful to keep a laminated printed list of all borrower barcodes in the library in the event that a student forgets their library card.

Log into your library system and load the Management page.

Select 'Modules' from the menu bar at the top of the page and select 'Labels...' and then 'Card Print...'.

The 'Card Print' window will display. From here, choose whether to produce reader cards for all or only selected groups using the radio buttons.

Click 'All Groups' to generate reader cards for all borrowers of all tutor groups in the system.

Click 'Selected Groups' to print all borrowers from only specific groups, tick the relevant tutor groups in the list.

To alter the barcode format, order or add/remove the school name, click on the 'Options' tab.

Barcode Format

The 'Barcode Format' section controls the format of the barcodes when they are generated.

Use 'Automatic' to apply the default barcode formatting options as specified in automatic barcodes.

Use 'Manual' to specify a length for the barcode by entering a value into the 'Length' text box. For example, if a barcode needs to always be padded out to 5 digits then enter 5 in the length box. If any barcodes are shorter than the length entered in the box then they would be padded out using zeros, to this length. (12 would become 00012).

Use the 'Character' text box to add a letter to the beginning of the barcodes. We recommend using an uppercase letter. If using both the character and length, please note that the character is added after the length of the barcode is altered (barcode 12 with a length of 5 and character of B would be B00012).

Use 'No Formatting' to prevent the barcode from being formatted in any way. The barcodes of the borrowers will be printed exactly as they are stored in the system.

Including Photographs

This controls whether the reader cards include the photograph of each borrower (if it is present in their borrower record).

To include a photograph for each borrower on the print out, click the 'Include Photograph' tick box. The photos must already be added to the system.

Sort Order

The options in the 'Sort Order' menu allow you to control the order in which the reader cards are shown when printed.

To specify a sort order, select the desired 'Sort Order' from the list.

School Name

This controls the school name that is printed onto the reader cards.

To generate library cards including the school name that the system has been licensed for, leave the 'System Default' option selected. To enter a custom name, click 'Custom School Name' and enter the school name you would like into the text box.

Generating Card Print

Once you have finished with the options, return to the 'General' tab and click 'Generate' to create the library cards.

The library cards will be displayed in a PDF window and can be saved or printed.

If the PDF does not appear within a reasonable amount of time please go to the Output table to find it. Select the card print dated the day you created it and double click it to open it or click 'Edit' in the right-hand menu.
