Creating a Client secret for Microsoft Azure AD

Purpose

To provide guidance through the process of creating a client secret for enabling SSO integration between Microsoft Azure and Reading Cloud.

Covers: Creation of client secret

This section does not cover: App creation; API Permissions; Linking Borrowers.

When to Do This

After app creation, and before configuring the API permissions.

Instructions

Log into the Azure Portal here then go to 'App registration' and select your newly registered application.

On the left-hand side, select 'Certificates & secrets' and then 'New client secret'.

Give the secret a 'Description' such as 'Reading Cloud' then set the 'Expired' for the time frame you would like the secret to last.

Click 'Add' and the secret will now display.

Under 'Value' select the copy icon, then in another window in your browser, ensure you have selected your identity provider. Paste the secret into the 'Client Secret' box and press 'OK' at the bottom of the box to save your settings.

Tips

- Ensure that the Value is copied, NOT the Secret ID. The secret ID will not work. If the Value is not copied during the initial secret creation, it is obscured and cannot be copied later. If you cannot copy the value, you will need to create a completely new client secret.

How some of our other customers have phrased this

- Where do I enter the client secret from Azure?

- I need help with Microsoft client secret creation.
