Dynamic Searching
Reading Cloud utilises a dynamic style search on the homepage. This helps borrowers more easily find the resources and authors they are looking for.
How Does it Work?
When you begin to type into the search bar, after 3 characters, the system will start to predict what you are looking for and present you with multiple suggested searches, authors and resources. As you continue to type more, these suggestions will update and get more accurate.
From here, you can click one of the suggested searches, and the site will carry this search out. If you click on one of the suggested resources, it will load the record for that resource rather than doing a search.
You can also, as with any search, just type a search and press 'Enter' or 'Return' on your keyboard to carry out a normal search.
What about Spelling Mistakes?
The search is currently capable of accounting for typing or spelling errors, but this is something we are looking to implement in later iterations.
Where are these suggestions from?
Any suggestions populated in the list are from your management area, it will only suggest searches of resources that are catalogued in the management page of your library system.
Borrowers wishing to search outside the library (such as Project Gutenberg) can still be found by searching, but will not show in the suggestions.
If you are seeing erroneous searches in this search bar, such as incorrectly spelt titles or authors, this is because they are incorrect in your management page. You can go to management and use quick replace to find and correct them.
