Linking Borrowers to your SSO Provider
Purpose
To provide instruction on the methods for linking borrowers to your SSO provider.
Covers: Linking borrowers to SSO database
Does not cover: SSO Initial Set Up
When to Do This
After selecting your Identifier Provider and completing the initial SSO setup.
Instructions
There are a few steps involved in setting up the link with your SSO provider.. First you need to ensure you have selected your ID provider within the library system. Once you have done this, ensure you keep the library system open and carry out the other setup steps in another browser window as you will need to swap between them.
First you will need to Set up the link between your Identifier Provider and the library system.
Once the link has been set up, you will need to ensure there is a link between your borrowers accounts in the library system and their SSO account.
Linking via E-Mail addresses
The easiest and most convenient way is to make sure that the borrower's email address is populated in their record card, If this information is present then the SSO system will match the records and facilitate the sign on. This can be done using either a CSV or your automatic system.
If you use the automatic system, once you have set it up to import email addresses, you will never need to adjust it, each time new borrowers arrive in the management system they will be automatically added to the library system with their email address and the SSO will work straight away.
You can check the link by opening a borrower record card and ensuring there is an email address populated in the 'E-Mail' box.
If you would like to check this for all borrowers, you can do an advanced search for 'E-Mail Is Empty', this will then give you a list of all borrowers that will not match.
It is important to note that this field must be unique, if there are two borrowers with the same email address, there is a chance the they will get mixed up when logging in.
Linking by CSV Import
Each provider will allow you to export a CSV with the user information directly. This can then be imported to Reading Cloud and this will contain the required information to link the Borrower records to their credentials in the SSO database.
The process for exporting this information varies by provider. Please see the Exporting a CSV from your Identifier Provider.
Once you have obtained this CSV, you can import it into Reading Cloud.
Linking through the Identifier Provider task
If you do not want to have the email address attached to the record or import the CSV from your provider, you can setup the scheduled task in the library system.
Please note, if you are using Google as your Identifier Provider, you will first need to authorise a link from the SSO portal to enable the task to be run successfully.
Once one of these three methods have been carried out and your borrowers are linked, you are set up and your borrowers will now be able to SSO into the library system.
