Setting a Force Return Date in the Calendar

There will be times when the library is closed for long periods, such as over summer. With some borrowers leaving, it is important to manage how long a borrower can take out a resource, thus reducing the chances of it being lost.

The calendar enables you to mark a force return date to prevent any resources being issued and due back after the selected date.

Setting a Force Return Date

Log into the library system as the Administrator and open the Management page. From the menu bar at the top of the page, select 'Tools'  then select 'Calendar' from the list.

On the calendar interface, select 'Force Return' from the box at the top and select the year you wish to set the force return for by using the left and right arrows.

Next, click on the day you wish to set as the force return date and a 'Force Return" window will open. You can now select specific year groups and resource types you wish to mark a return for. There may be certain resources you wish to be returned by all years and some only for years that are leaving the school such as text books.

When you have made your selections, click 'OK' to return to the main calendar window. The days that you have selected will now be marked red to indicate that they have been marked as force return dates.

When you are happy with the changes you have made, click 'OK' to save them.

Effects of Force Return

From this point on, no loan, regardless of the loan period will have a due date beyond your selected date for the year group that you have included in this force return.

Return dates for resources currently on loan are not affected by changes made to the calendar, only new loans from this point forward will have the force return date applied.

You may need to restart Circulate before these changes take effect.
