Vertical Tutor Groups
A vertical tutor group is a group populated with borrowers of multiple ages (years), rather than borrowers all of the same age.
The library system caters for vertical tutor groups by allowing borrowers from multiple years to be members of a single tutor group.
You can set up vertical tutor groups when manually managing borrowers and tutor groups. A quicker way to add borrowers to the system is by using a CSV file to import them.
Creating a Vertical Tutor Group
Create the group as normal.
Create a borrower that belongs to this group (and year).
Nothing will be any different at this point, if the tutor group is checked then it is exactly the same as any other.
If the next borrower that is added is not a member of the tutor group's default year then this must be changed on their record.
Now when checking the tutor group, notice that the year group field is now greyed out and cannot be changed. This is because the group now contains borrowers from varying years. The Move To option will also be unavailable for the same reason.
Continue adding borrowers as required.
Correcting a mixed year Tutor Group
If you are unable to alter a tutor group because the Move To option is greyed out, you will need to check the Members of the group and look for any Borrower who's Year Group is different to the others. These records must have their Year Group manually corrected.
Search for the specific individual within the Borrowers table and open the record. You can then change the value in the 'Year Group' field. Ensure this matches the Year Group of the rest of the Tutor Group, and then save the record. Once this has been done for all records that had a different Year Group then the Move To option will be available again.
