Changing Restriction Settings

The 'General' tab of the restrictions window has a number of options to allow you to customise your restriction settings to your personal taste.

The other tabs are Borrowers and Resources.

General Settings

Log into the library system as an administrator and load Management. Click 'Settings' on the menu bar at the top of the page and select 'Restrictions...' from the menu.

The first setting is 'Allow reference resources to be issued'. If this setting is not ticked then any resources that have been marked as 'Reference' cannot be issued. The 'Reference' tick box is found at the bottom of the details tab on a resource record card.

Next is the 'Remove closed days from days overdue' setting. If ticked, this setting will prevent the total number of days a resource is overdue from increasing while the library is closed, providing the closed days are set within the calendar. For example, a borrower has a book that is 1 day overdue on Friday but weekends are closed in the calendar. If this setting is ticked, on Monday the book would only be 2 days overdue as the weekends are being excluded. If this box was unticked then the book would be 4 days overdue as it includes the closed days in the calculation.

The 'Apply age restrictions' and 'Age restrictions can be overridden' tick boxes are used when applying age restrictions.

The setting 'Prevent loans to overdue readers' can be used to stop borrowers who have overdue resources from borrowing more items until they have returned or renewed their overdue items.

'Remove closed days from fine calculations' enforces the same principal as the 'Remove closed days from days overdue' but this applies to fines instead. If a book is overdue on a Friday and accruing a fine of 10p per day, the weekends are not counted in the calculation. So the fine would not increase by 20p over the weekend, providing closed days are set in the calendar.

The 'Minimum fine amount' is the value that a fine has to reach before a borrower starts being charged. For instance, if the minimum fine was set to 1.00, only when this amount is exceed will the fine display on a borrowers account.

The 'Project Box' settings are used for managing the restrictions of Project Boxes.

Once you have selected the required options, click 'OK' to apply them.
